Reading Advice and Tips (RAT)

The RAT Queen is Lucy M. Lockley, Lead Collection Development Librarian for St. Charles City-County Library District (MO). This blog was developed as a means to expand interest in and knowledge of readers' advisory tools and techniques.

I am currently a Member-at-Large for the Collection Development and Evaluation Section (CODES) of the Reference and User Services Association (a division of the American Library Association) and beginning in July 2019, will be serving on CODES's Core List committee. I have also served on the Booklist Advisory Board, RUSA's Listen List, Louis Shores Award, Zora Neale Hurston, Notable Books, & Reading List award committees and co-chaired the RUSA CODES Readers' Advisory Committee. In 2013, I completed the Readers' Advisory Certification Program offered by the Metro Area Readers Round Table (MARRT) committee of the Mid-America Library Alliance (MALA). And have contributed chapters to ALA Editions' The Readers' Advisory Handbook (2010) and Crossover Readers'  Advisory: Maximize Your Collection to Meet Reader Satisfaction (2015). I contribute reviews of speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction and horror) to Booklist and was fortunate to be featured with my library in a 2017 Notes from the Field article. Through presentations at state & national conferences and the occasional webinar, I enjoy exploring means to provide reading advice and tips about RA tools.

I love to read and create training opportunities for library staff. I am a devotee of audiobooks and, along with my husband and two grown children, am a HUGE fan of trivia, animation, special effects, and action films.
